‘Human chain’ rescues desperate family

The human chain extends from the Panama City beach to rescue nine swimmer struggling in a rip.

WHEN a sudden rip dragged a family away from a Panama City beach earlier this week, nearby holiday makers refused to allow a tragedy to unfold.

According to an account published by the Panama City News Herald, people enjoying the beautiful sand and sea suddenly heard screaming.

“They were screaming and crying that they were stuck,” holiday-maker Roberta Ursrey said in an interview.

She and her family attempted to swim out to assist the distressed swimmers, but quickly found themselves equally trapped by the rip. Ursrey said nine people were in its grip.

“I honestly thought I was going to lose my family that day,” Ursrey said. “It was like, ‘Oh God, this is how I’m going’.
