If only the Blues boys could tackle like this

RUAN Sims brought the heat and Jessica Sergis delivered a hat-trick as the NSW women achieved what the male counterparts have been unable to pull off by defeating Queensland on Sunday.

While Sims’ bone-crunching tackle on Maroons skipper Karina Brown was the play of the game, it was Sergis who produced one of the greatest — and possibly strangest — rugby league debuts.

A teenager, playing in only her sixth ever game of league, scoring three tries to help the Blues to only their second ever victory over Queensland in an annual interstate challenge.

Sergis, a former union and AFL player who didn’t “really like” either game, was living the dream as her hat-trick helped NSW to their 22-6 victory at Win Stadium, Wollongong.
