Is it time to forget the Fitbit?


Fitbit is reportedly working on a smartwatch after it suffered a drop in popularity and was overtaken by Apple’s Watch.

WEARABLE technology is not just about counting your steps any more.

Smartwatches have finally stolen the lead in wrist-based gadgetry, overtaking fitness bands from the likes of Fitbit and Xiaomi.

And, just as in smartphones, it’s Apple, Samsung, and Google vying for the most sales … and space on your wrist.

Former market leader Fitbit is not going down without a fight, however, plotting to deliver its own fully featured smartwatch later this year.

The fitness-focused company suffered a serious drop in popularity this year, according to Canalys, plummeting 30 per cent and selling just 2.9 million devices.

By comparison, Apple claimed top spot with 3.8 million Apple Watch sales, up 25 per cent on the same time last year.
