THE idea of playing AFL games in India might be more than a pipedream judging by the turnout at the first local match.

An Indian team played an Australian Masters team this week in the first ever official Australian rules match in the country.

The locals showed their passion for sport extends to strange foreign codes, with 6000 fans packing into a modified cricket ground on a rainy day in West Midnapor.

Richmond and GWS have hatched an ambitious plan to play for premiership points in India next season.
