Man catapulted on to platform by train

There was “mass hysteria” at Hornsby Train Station this morning after a man was hit by a train and landed back on the platform during peak hour.

The man is believed to have hit the front of the train about 8.40am and been flung into commuters standing on the platform. He later died from his injuries.

Police are yet to issue a statement on the incident, however a spokesman confirmed the matter was not suspicious and that no one else was injured.

A witness who did not wish to be named told the Hornsby Advocate that the man, who she said was quite large, was catapulted about 10 metres back and struck passengers.

She said she thought the man had survived the incident, however police confirmed he died.

The death caused delays for North Shore, Northern and Central Coast Newcastle line trains and caused chaos for commuters.

The flow on effects continued into lunch time as commuters at Mt Druitt and St Marys.

If you or If you or someone you know is struggling, call Lifeline 13 11 14 or 000.
