More public school teaching vacancies open up

She’s got her eyes on the prize — a science scholarship for science and maths worth $10,000.

MORE than 600 public school positions are being advertised for 2018 — significantly more than normal for this time of year — as more teachers retire or leave the profession.

The announcement of the vacancies comes as the Education Department launches a million dollar scholarship scheme to help students pursue maths and science subjects in Years 11 and 12.

Over the next three years, 110 students from groups under-represented in STEM subjects and career paths — girls, Aboriginal students and disadvantaged teens — will receive scholarships worth $7500-$10,000 for costs such as tutoring, laptops, books and excursions.

The department is advertising for two assistant principals for the new Adelaide Botanic High, among 200 leadership positions ranging from principals and deputies to wellbeing and subject co-ordinators.
