Pizza house gunfight kills 14

GUNMEN posing as military forces were holding an unknown number of hostages inside a popular restaurant in Somalia’s capital in an attack that began when a car bomb exploded at the gate, police and a witness said Wednesday night, while the extremist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility.

Police say the death toll has risen to at least 14, including foreigners, in an attack that continues at a popular restaurant in Somalia’s capital. Capt. Mohamed Hussein says the dead include a Syrian man.

Two of the gunmen were shot dead and 10 hostages were rescued but five other attackers were thought to remain inside, cutting off electricity to complicate security forces’ efforts to end the siege, Capt. Hussein said. He said heavy gunfire was continuing to be heard.
