THE nation’s best cricketers may take home the Ashes this summer, but they cannot win the cash battle with the old enemy.

As cricket’s pay war moved closer to resolution, expected big rises will still leave Steve Smith and his men behind England in a worldwide wage battle. And the gap will only get wider.

The most recent analysis of international cricket wages, by the Federation of International Cricketers Associations (FICA), put England’s contracted players ahead of the Aussies in average earnings.
