Rosberg’s surprise Mercedes suggestion

Rosberg has some advice for his old team.

THERE was no real off season for Mercedes following the 2016 F1 campaign.

Nico Rosberg’s shock retirement after winning the world title meant the Silver Arrows had to focus on finding the right man to partner Lewis Hamilton in 2017 — someone who would hopefully help them score a fourth successive Constructors Championship.

There were suggestions the team might promote one of its junior drivers Esteban Ocon or Pascal Wehrlein, but eventually Mercedes snared Valtteri Bottas from Williams.

While the Finn will drive alongside Hamilton this year, Rosberg said another change in the Mercedes garage could be on the cards come 2018. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel is off contract at the end of the year and, after a disappointing 2016 by his standards (he finished fourth in the title race in a season littered with on-track issues), could be on the lookout for a fresh start.
