Schoolgirl IS bride ‘wants to get away’

Three years after Islamic State captured the Iraqi city of Mosul, Iraqi armed forces have all-but liberated the city from the extremist group.

A TEENAGE German girl who ran away after converting to Islam and was found by Iraqi troops in Mosul says she now just wants to go home.

Linda Wenzel, who was found in Iraq this month after marrying an Islamic State fighter, said she now just wants to be with her family.

“I want to get away from the war, away from all the weapons, away from the noise,” the 16-year-old said.

German daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung and public broadcaster ARD said their reporter interviewed the girl in Baghdad after Iraqi forces liberated the northern city of Mosul from the Islamic State group earlier this month.
