XFL’s most insane rule explained

THE XFL has recently come back into the spotlight following a documentary produced as part of the ESPN 30 for 30 series which gave viewers a look into the short-lived football league.

The American football league was created by World Wrestling Federation head Vince McMahon and NBC sports chief Dick Ebersol as competition to the NFL.

NBC had just lost the rights to football and were looking to fill the void, while McMahon saw a way he could bring his entertainment nous into the game by creating his own league.

The XFL season began after the NFL Super Bowl finished and was what cricket’s Big Bash is in comparison to the Sheffield Shield. It was unique and tried to be very different.

It lasted just one season, but it’s remembered for the crazy ideas it brought to the football field.
