Cox Plate favourite Russian Camelot lands bad barrier as internationals draw well

The 2020 Moonee Valley Carnival is upon us with the running of the $5 million WS Cox Plate set for this Saturday.

Favourite Russian Camelot will have to defy history to win the Group 1 weight-for-age classic (2040m) after drawing the widest barrier (15).

That barrier will become 14 after the removal of the first emergency Buckhurst. No horse has ever won the Cox Plate from barrier 14.

International raiders Armory (6), Aspetar (3), Sir Dragonet (7) and Magic Wand (4) have all drawn nicely while three-year-old Grandslam has landed barrier five.

The market has reacted to the barrier draw with Russian Camelot drifting to $4.50 with TAB while Armory has firmed into $5 alongside Arcadia Queen.
