Ravichandran Ashwin’s wife has revealed she worried the Indian veteran would cross a line when he reacted to being called a “d***head” by Australian captain Tim Paine.
Paine sent a string of barbs at Ashwin on day five of the epic Sydney Test, prompting an apology after heavy criticism from the likes of Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar.
Stump microphones caught Paine claiming “at least my teammates like me, d***head”, among other sledges about a lack of interest in the spinner from IPL franchises.
Paine first argued the spat was “all part of the game” but he was far more contrite less than 24 hours later.
