An emergency warning has been issued for a lightning-sparked bushfire threatening lives and homes at a small rural community in Western Australia’s south.
The warning for Poison Swamp Road and the Darradup community in the Shire of Nannup came after the blaze was reported at 12.35pm WST on Wednesday.
It started west of the Brockman Highway, is out of control and unpredictable, and moving fast in a north westerly direction.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says the alert level for the fire was upgraded as it is escalating in heavy fuels.
“If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place … head north towards Nannup along the Brockman Highway,” DFES says.
