Ten suspected cocaine packages wash up on Queensland island


Ten one-kilogram packages containing a suspicious white powder, which police believe to be cocaine worth up to $3 million, have washed up on the shores of an island off the north Queensland coast.

Passersby called police on Sunday when they found the packages at high tide on the beach at Ramsay Bay on Hinchinbrook Island, about 120 kilometres north of Townsville.

Officers are searching the area for any further packages and are awaiting the results of forensic testing of the powder, with initial tests indicating the substance to be cocaine.
