A former One Nation candidate has defended “slapping his wife with a shoe” after he was dumped by his party for making racist comments online.
One Nation has dumped Forrestfield candidate Roger Barnett ahead of WA’s state election on Saturday over comments he made attacking Muslim and Indigenous people.
Barnett told 7NEWS he doesn’t retract anything he’s said or written, instead arguing that his comments have been taken “out of context.”
On his Facebook page, he referred to Mirrabooka Shopping Centre as “downtown Syria.”
“I couldn’t find anyone to ask a question when I was in the shopping centre because there was no English speaking European-looking people,” he wrote.
