The desperate search for a missing elderly woman on the NSW mid north coast has ended in tragedy.
A body, believed to be 78-year-old Adele Morrison, has been found on a riverbank at a rural property, bringing a weeks-long search to a devastating end.
Ms Morrison was last seen leaving her home in Port Macquarie on March 16. She had planned to make the 150km journey to Gloucester but never turned up.
Her family alerted authorities the next day, sparking a wide-scale search.
Her red Toyota Corolla was found partially submerged in flood waters in the Barrington River at Barrington just days later.
But her body was nowhere to be found.
