An apparent breakdown between Josh Battle and St Kilda has been laid bare after he was told not to attend their best-and-fairest awards on Monday night.

The 26-year-old defender wrestled with his AFL future for months during the season before opting to join Hawthorn on a multimillion-dollar deal.
