In 2023, Joachim and Marie moved their family to the US after a landmark decision by Queen Margrethe in 2022 to strip their two children, Henrik and Athena, of their royal titles. From the beginning of 2023, they were known as Counts and Countesses of Monpezat, rather than Their Royal Highnesses.
