‘Wolf warrior’ Cheng departs Canberra quietly

China’s self-styled ‘wolf warrior’ hasn’t “won a lot of friends” during his time in Australia, according to Media Stable Managing Director Nic Hayes. 

The Australian is reporting Chinese ambassador Cheng Jingye is quietly leaving Canberra after a tumultuous five-year posting. 

“I don’t think the agricultural people will be too sad to see him go,” Mr Hayes said. 

“I think those that make wine won’t be too disappointed to see him disappear. 

“We’ve had a pretty tough time with China and he definitely goes in to bat for them, as you would want from your diplomat, but a little bit too harsh, I would say.”
