Scott Morrison to form bipartisan debates commission ahead of federal election

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has moved to form a bipartisan debates commission ahead of next federal election.

The squabble over when and where to have election debates and which media company hosts them has plagued previous campaigns.

Sky News Australia can exclusively reveal the government is proposing what it calls "guiderails" to lock in a set of rules that would apply from the next election.

Under the proposal there would be three televised debates all of which are held in three separate weeks.

One debate would be held in Canberra, one in another capital city, and one debate in regional Australia.
