Sky News host Nicholas Reece says the Coalition refusing to budge on Australia’s 2030 climate target creates a “political conundrum” for the Labor Party. Mr Reece said the “never-ending climate wars” are set to continue as an agreement was made at the COP26 Summit for countries to meet again next year to debate stronger 2030 targets. He also said “predictably” Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and the Nationals were “quick out of the gate” to say they were not going to up Australia’s emissions reduction target for 2030 despite other countries being more ambitious. “The pressure is on for Australia to agree to more ambitious cuts – but the Coalition Government is not budging, and this creates a political conundrum for Labor,” Mr Reece said. “Having lost more than one election to a climate change fear campaign, Labor will be cautious. “The expectation is that Labor will not announce its 2030 target until after parliament rises for the year.”
