Byford bushfire: Accused firebug charged over Christmas Day blaze

A 42-year-old Cardup man had been charged with lighting fires in the Byford area on Christmas day which burnt out about 30,000sqm of bushland.

Police say about 4.10am the man lit a fire in bushland near Nettleton Road and South Western Highway.

It took firefighters about five hours to extinguish.
