Indigenous precinct costing $316m to be built in Canberra

An Indigenous cultural precinct will be built in the heart of the nation's capital.

The $316 million project will establish a new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learning centre, as well as a national resting place to care for ancestral remains. 

It will be built at Commonwealth Place on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra, between Old Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial.

A competition to design the precinct will be run later this year.
