Around 100 firefighters are continuing to battle a major multi-storey building blaze in Sydney’s south-west.
The fire broke out on Canterbury Road at Lakemba just before 4am.
Fire crews found the ground floor of the three-storey building ablaze.
25 fire trucks are working to contain the fire, which is continuing to spread throughout the building, issuing heavy smoke.
Densely packed materials and furniture are making it hard for crews to access the building.
Approximately 25 people have been evacuated from adjoining buildings as a precaution. There have been no reports of injuries to members of the public.
A firefighter was transported to hospital and treated for minor burns but has since been released.
Canterbury Road is closed between Halden Street and Dennis Street and is expected to remain shut for several hours.
Locals in the area are advised to keep their doors and windows closed to avoid smoke.
The operation is expected to continue throughout the day.
