IN MEMORY: We honour Police Officers William ‘Bill’ Bryan Condon, and Colin John Eckert, both killed on June 9, in the execution of duty.
Constable Bill Condon was shot and killed by Terence Stapleton, in 1952, in Katherine – just three years into his career as a Police Officer. Constable Condon was posthumously awarded the Queens Police and Fire Service Medal for Gallantry.
18 years later, to the day, Sergeant Colin Eckert was killed in a head-on collision with another vehicle near the King River, south of Katherine.
