Jodi McKay to resign from NSW parliament

Former New South Wales Labor leader Jodi McKay has announced her resignation from parliament – triggering a fifth state by-election.

In a statement – the Member for Strathfield explains Sydney's lockdown has given her time to reflect and consider her future:

"It was an honour to be the first ever NSW Labor leader democratically elected by Party members. As Leader, I championed internal reform to rebuild trust in our Party and make it more accountable," she said in a statement posted on social media.

"I will miss many of my Parliamentary colleagues, my devoted staff, our rank and file members, and the groups and individuals in my diverse, beautiful electorate of Strathfield."

By-elections are also expected in the New South Wales seats of Willoughby, Monaro, Bega and Holsworthy – following the resignations of former Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Deputy Premier John Barilaro, Transport Minister Andrew Constance and Liberal MP Melanie Gibbons.
