Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says Prime Minister Scott Morrison has “ridiculed new technology” after he claimed investments in new technology to lower emissions will take time and getting to net zero will not be linear.

“It’s the prime minister’s own words that said the biggest battery in Australia, in South Australia, to store energy, renewable energy was as useful as the Big Prawn and the Big Banana,” he told Sky News Australia.

Mr Albanese said Mr Morrison had a history of opposing new, more environmentally friendly technology and has “disparaged action” on climate change and was not taking it seriously.

“He’s become a caricature of himself having spent years ridiculing action on climate change, he speaks about Kyoto one and Kyoto two, well the fact is that it took the election of a Labor government in 2007 to ratify the Kyoto protocol,” he said.
