‘Really important’ for Canberra to ‘stand up for’ Australia’s trade rights

Deputy Labor leader Richard Marles says it's really important the government is standing up for Australia's trading rights amid a statement lodged by Canberra to the World Trade Organization against Chinese targeting of Australian exports.

"We need to be doing everything we can, firstly to protect our own interests, but secondly to be encouraging China and indeed every country to participate in a global trading system," he told Sky News Australia.

"Trade is a critically important part of our economy and it's right that we are doing everything we can as a nation to be sticking up for our interests when it comes to trade."
