Australia will bring emissions down in a ‘way that’s safe for the economy’: Greg Hunt

Australia will bring emissions down in a “way that’s safe for the economy," according to Health Minister Greg Hunt.

It comes as the plan for Australia to reach net zero by 2050 has been released, with technology being the main focus on getting to the target.

“We’ve brought emissions down, but we’ll do it in a way that's safe for the economy, safe for people’s electricity bills, and the other side, unfortunately, has a history of pink bats and electricity taxes,” Mr Hunt told Sky News Australia.

“We always work together with focus on rural and regional Australia, and it is important, one thing that we’re unashamed about is we speak across the Liberal Party and the National Party for the people of rural and regional Australia.

“And we're always looking for things that will allow them to flourish.”

Mr Hunt said nuclear is “not something the government’s proposing” in the net zero by 2050 plan.

“That remains our position.”
