‘This is someone I trusted’: Berejiklian did not assume Maguire of ‘any wrongdoing’

Former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has told the ICAC she did not assume her ex-lover Daryl Maguire had "done anything wrong" because he was someone she had known for a long time and trusted.

The ICAC previously heard evidence from Mr Maguire that he was engaged in a potential money-making scheme involving certain property developers.

The inquiry referred to a 52 minute phone call Ms Berejiklian had with Mr Maguire in which she repeatedly asked him if he had "done anything wrong" – to which he replied in the negative.

"As you know in that 52 minute conversation a number of times I'd asked him if he had done anything wrong and he kept laying he hadn't," she told Counsel Assisting Scott Robertson.

"He is someone I knew for a long time and I trusted him."

The NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption is investigating whether the former premier breached public trust after failing to disclose her secret relationship with the former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire.

Ms Berejiklian is the final witness – the inquiry began on Monday October 18.
