‘Open and shut case’ Morrison ‘misled’ Macron over submarine deal

The Australian’s Editor at Large Paul Kelly says it is an "open and shut case" French President Emmanuel Macron was "misled" by the PM over the submarine deal. 

“There are two points I’d make about this; it’s very clear from what Scott Morrison said that he misled President Macron; I mean this is an open and shut case, there’s nothing secret about it,” Mr Kelly told Sky News Australia. 

“He made it clear that when he had dinner, he indicated to President Macron that it was highly unlikely that conventional submarines would do the job."

“But he did not tell President Macron anything about the deal he was sorting out with American, Britain to get nuclear-powered submarines. 

“He did not indicate to President Macron that he was thinking of cancelling the French contract. 

“So, of course, President Macron was misled, I mean, that’s obvious so it’s an open and shut case.”
