‘You can safely say’ foreign affairs questions ‘don’t usually determine elections’

There is "always a danger" in making contemporaneous analyses of how important something is in a historical sense, according to Mark Kenny who is a Professor at the ANU's Australian Studies Institute.

Professor Kenny discussed Prime Minister Scott Morrison's recent trip to Rome for the G20, and his visit to Glasgow for the COP26 climate change conference. 

He spoke of the fallout from the trip, after French President Emmanuel Macron, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, accused Prime Minister Scott Morrison of being a liar. 

"We don't really know how this is going to be looked on by voters down the track - will it affect their view of the government," Professor Kenny told Sky News Australia. 

"I think you can safely say ... foreign affairs questions don't usually determine elections."
