National Cabinet to reconvene amid divisions over reopening

National Cabinet will convene today for its first meeting since the start of October with the conference boosted by the nation's climbing vaccination rates. However, although close to 80 per cent the eligible population are fully vaccinated, a national reopening remains in doubt due to several states lagging behind on immunisations. New South Wales and Victoria both have double dose rates above 80 per cent. Meanwhile Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory have only vaccinated about 65 per cent of the their eligible population. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has signalled he'll work with his New South Wales counterpart to push for further reopening. Vaccinations for children aged five to 11 will also be discussed at the meeting. The Therapeutic Goods Administration has hinted Pfizer could be approved for young children by the end of the month. Further details regarding the national rollout of the vaccine booster program will also be tabled.
