Victoria’s proposed pandemic legislation ‘deeply flawed’: Assistant Attorney General

Assistant Attorney General Amanda Stoker says Victoria’s proposed pandemic bill is “deeply flawed” for a number of reasons.

The bill has gone through Victoria’s lower house and is being considered by the upper house.

“This stuff is unprecedented in Australian history and should be deeply scary for Victorians,” Ms Stoker told Sky News host Catherine McGregor.

“After two years of Australians very patiently putting up with enormous restrictions on their liberty … you’d hope the governments would be stepping back and saying ‘how can we learn from this so that in similar situations we don’t unnecessarily confine the ability of individuals to live their lives in the way that they wish’.

“But instead in Victoria, the Andrews government has doubled down on draconian pandemic powers.”
