Morrison ‘can’t walk away’ from prior electric vehicle comments ‘without criticism’

Political Strategist Bruce Hawker says Prime Minister Scott Morrison declaring he has never been against electric vehicles is a "real stretch" for people who remember his comments from 2019. 
  
In that year, Mr Morrison said Labor's electric vehicle plan would "end the weekend".  
  
"I think that's a real stretch for most people; they remember the war on the weekend, he said that Labor was waging because they wanted to have electric vehicle policies that ... you wouldn't be able to pull the caravan to where you wanted to go for the weekend," Mr Hawker told Sky News Australia.  
  
He said this became "quite a potent element" in the 2019 campaign. 
  
"So, I don't think you can just walk away from that without attracting a fair degree of criticism. 
  
"And of course, when you look at the policy itself, it doesn't really do much - doesn't provide any great incentives for the importation of these electric cars."
