Australia can become a ‘renewable energy superpower’: Albanese

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says Australia can become a “renewable energy superpower” with leadership from government.

“I believe that Australia can be very successful at lowering our emission and the reason why is because we have incredible advantages,” he said on Sunday.

“We have some of the best sun solar resources in the world, the best wind resources in the world, we have copper, lithium, zinc, all of these materials that go into a battery. We have incredible opportunity.”

Mr Albanese said the Sun Cable renewable energy project in the Northern Territory was an example of Australia's renewable energy export potential.

“Sun Cable will be making the largest solar farm in the world, built in the Northern Territory, exporting energy to Singapore,” he said.

“We can not only be successful nationally, we can be an exporter of clean energy. We can be a renewable energy superpower for the world. All it requires is government leadership.”

Mr Albanese told reporters the Labor Party will release more details of its “positive plans” to tackle climate change before the end of the year.
