SA Deputy Premier ‘misled parliament’

The South Australian Government is standing by Deputy Premier Vickie Chapman – after a parliamentary inquiry heard she misled parliament and had a conflict of interest over a rejection for a building application on Kangaroo Island. 
  
The inquiry heard that Ms Chapman misled parliament and had a conflict of interest when rejecting the application to build a seaport on Kangaroo Island – where she owns property. 
  
The deputy premier is expected to provide a written statement to the inquiry on Tuesday. 
  
Ms Chapman remains adamant she did nothing wrong, and there was no conflict of interest with her decision to reject the application for a deep seaport on Kangaroo Island by a timber company, where she owned property. 
  
However, Counsel leading the inquiry, Dr Rachael Gray QC, said there was a “clear conflict of interest” and that Ms Chapman misled parliament because she was not clear about owning property on the island – and should be referred to the Ombudsman.
