Coalition split shows the Morrison government is ‘falling apart before our eyes’

Labor Senator Katy Gallagher says the rushed introduction of the religious discrimination bill shows the Morrison government is “falling apart right before our eyes”. The proposed legislation, which was released on Wednesday and introduced to Parliament today, has caused a split within the Coalition government with moderates concerned the bill could be used as a “weapon” to impinge on other freedoms. Ms Gallagher says its introduction “five minutes to midnight” speaks of a government that is “unable to govern”. “The religious freedom bill and the anti-corruption commission … are two clear promises that he’s (Mr Morrison) failed to deliver upon and the government is falling apart like right before our eyes,” she told Sky News Australia. “We’ve got senators splitting, we’ve got them voting on different ways, paired, not turning up to the chamber and now we’ve got members of the government in the house starting on the same strategy: it really is a government that is unable to govern at the moment.”
