Key trade talks postponed due to Omicron

A key World Trade Organisation meeting has been postponed due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19, according to Trade Minister Dan Tehan.

“When I got off the plane, heard the news that the WTO MC12, the ministerial meeting, had been postponed,” Mr Tehan told Sky News Australia. 

“They took the decision because seven, eight or nine southern African countries couldn’t attend in person and it’s a consensus-based organisation – you need all 164 countries to agree to be able to get rules changed.”
