Morrison govt announcing ‘significant commitments’ to keep Australians safe online

Superannuation and Financial Services Minister Jane Hume says three "significant commitments" were announced this week which build on the Morrison government's good track record of keeping Australians safe online.

"The first is that we will unmask those online trolls, those social media trolls, who defame others but under a digital curtain of anonymity," she told Sky News Australia.

"The second commitment is to ensure that when defamatory comments are made on somebody else's social media page, that that person who's page it is, isn't held responsible for those defamatory comments of others.

"And finally, we also announced an inquiry into toxic material on social media platforms, putting those tech companies under the microscope."
