New claims exacerbate NSW transport woes

Several Sydney’s Chinese-built Emerald-class ferries are back in the shipyard, after propeller issues were detected in testing, and cracks were found in the Balmoral. 

Opposition leader Chris Minns criticised the government’s transport policy as “falling through the cracks” – referencing the cracks in ferries and inner-west light rails. 

While Premier Dominic Perrottet told reporters at his National Press Club address on Wednesday there were “always going to be problems” with transport and his job was to “fix them as quickly as possible,” it appears the government was slow to act on transport issues. 

New documents show the government was aware of cracks in the trams a month before they were pulled from service.
