Gladys Berejiklian to end political career

Former New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian is expected to announce the end to her political career today.

Ms Berejiklian spoke to the Prime Minister yesterday, declining his offer to contest for the federal seat of Warringah after weeks of intense lobbying for her to make the switch.

The decision will hinder the Morrison government's chances of reclaiming the seat, lost to Independent Zali Steggall in the 2019 election.

The Australian understands Ms Berejiklian will move to a private sector role.
