Federal government to establish national Indigenous voice

The federal government will establish a new grassroots body to represent the Indigenous community at the national level.

Cabinet has agreed to form 35 regional and local groups which will come under the organisation.

It will act as a national voice to advise the government and parliament on Indigenous policy.

The Coalition has decided not to legislate the Indigenous body until after the next election, a move the Prime Minister has defended.
