Scott Ryan named High Commissioner to Canada

Former Senate President Scott Ryan has been appointed the next High Commissioner to Canada.

Mr Ryan left politics in October, retiring after 13 years as a senator for Victoria.

Foreign Minister Marise Payne has identified cooperation on trade, security and climate change as the key priorities for relations with Canada.

Mr Ryan will formally take up the role early next year.
