Sydney’s 9pm fireworks would have been unifying if dedicated to healthcare workers: Price

CLP Senate candidate Jacinta Price says Sydney’s 9pm fireworks display should have been dedicated to frontline healthcare workers who have “worked around the clock” to take care of Australians of all different backgrounds.

The comments come after the New Year’s Eve children’s fireworks display in Sydney – which was dedicated to Indigenous culture – received criticism for being politicised.  

“They (health workers) don’t favour any particular group of Australians over another and they certainly deserve the recognition by … all of Australia,” Ms Price told Sky News host Chris Smith.  

“I hope that we can get to a point where we can begin to do that. We can do things that actually are about unifying a nation, not about prioritising one group of people over another.”
