Aged care minister defends COVID committee no-show

Aged Care and Sports Minister Richard Colbeck has fronted the Senate's COVID committee after failing to appear in January because he was at the cricket. Mr Colbeck was asked to appear before the committee on January 14 but declined and instead attended the Ashes Test in Hobart. He later justified the trip by saying it was part of his duty as Minister for Sport, and said he completed other work related to aged care before the match started. The visit promoted heavy criticism from Labor while the Prime Minister noted it did not pass the pub test.
