Liberal Party members are seeking to end months of delays over the selection of federal election candidates which could derail their chances in crucial marginal seats.

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke, who acts as Prime Minister Scott Morrison's representative on the NSW state executive, has refused to hold formal meetings to approve candidates over the last six months.

The delay means roughly 20 nominations are yet to be resolved ahead of the election.

As a result, state executive members are weighing up whether to meet without Mr Hawke or ask Mr Morrison to nominate an alternative representative.
