Queensland Museum Cobb+Co, Toowoomba is winding back the clock 100 years to commemorate the final Cobb & Co Coach run with four days of celebrations this month.

The Cobb 100 celebrations at Queensland Museum Cobb+Co marks a century of horse-drawn transport.

From 14-17 August visitors can experience the history of Cobb & Co. Coaching with live heritage trade demonstrations, curatorial talks, bush poetry, theatrical performances, and guided tours of the National Carriage Gallery.

The newly refurbished National Carriage Gallery is home to Coach No.112 – one of the last Cobb & Co. coaches that made their final journey on 14 August 1924 and 49 other horse-drawn vehicles from the Queensland Museum Collection.

Queensland Museum CEO Dr Jim Thompson said the legend of Cobb & Co. Coaching holds a special place in Australian history, representing the pioneering spirit that helped shape our nation.

“From the clatter of hooves on dusty outback roads to the thrill of embarking on a cross-country adventure, the romance of Cobb & Co.’s legacy is still very much alive at Queensland Museum Cobb+Co, Toowoomba,” Dr Thompson said.

“The end of the horse-drawn era gave way to modern transport and technologies like motor vehicles, air mail services and railways and these celebrations offer a unique opportunity for visitors to delve into the fascinating story of this iconic company and its enduring legacy.”

Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch said the National Carriage Gallery at Queensland Museum Cobb+Co is a much-loved cultural tourism destination in the Toowoomba region.

“The Cobb 100 Celebrations will share a century of fascinating stories, engaging visitors with the challenges and triumphs of coachmen and passengers and honouring the enduring legacy of Cobb & Co,” Minister Enoch said.

“The Queensland Government proudly supports Queensland Museum to share accessible cultural experiences with communities and visitors to the state, delivering on the priorities of our 10-year Creative Together strategy.”
