Police Dog Stryker hunts down offender in pine forest

Queensland Police Dog Stryker has helped track down a man who was part of a group that allegedly stole a vehicle from Brisbane.

The Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen from an address in Everton park yesterday morning, leading to a police chase involving Polair.

Polair tracked the vehicle between North Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and police were able to arrest three of the alleged offenders after locating the Jeep on Corrie Street in Chermside.

A 19-year-old man, 18-year-old woman and 17-year-old male were taken into custody.

The fourth person, a 25-year-old man, allegedly then broke into a nearby address and assaulted a man inside, before stealing a blue Holden Commodore.

The victim, in his 40s, wasn’t badly injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The Commodore was tracked by Polair and was allegedly seen driving dangerously between Chermside and the Sunshine Coast, before it eventually stopped on the Bruce Highway southbound at Beerburrum around 5.30pm.

The driver then ran into a pine forest, and Police Dog Stryker was able to quickly track him down.

The 25-year-old Cherbourg man has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and one count each of enter dwelling with intent to commit indictable offence, robbery with actual violence whilst armed, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified, possess dangerous drug, possess knife in public place and obstruct police.

The 19-year-old Acacia Ridge man was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, serious assault of a police officer, enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property and stealing.

The 18-year-old Cherbourg woman was charged with enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

The 17-year-old Acacia Ridge man has been charged with enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

Investigations are ongoing and detectives expect further charges may be laid.
